The Costa del
Sol is the golfers' paradise, the region between Sotogrande
and Málaga has become one of the biggest areas for
golf in the last decade. Golf is without question the sport
of the Costa del Sol hence the adopted name for the coast, "The
Costa del Golf".
With more than 80 courses, each of them located along the long and narrow coastline,
the area accounts for the biggest concentration of golf courses in the world!
In the surrounding area of Marbella alone, there are 20 courses, it's not surprising
the coast is the European Golf Capital of the World.
The facilities are of the highest possible standard with a wide variety of course
styles from classic and traditional such as Mijas Golf to dramatic and hilly
such as La Cala or Alhaurin. There are courses aimed at novice and family usage
and wonderful links courses where the golfer can play right next to the sea.
With numerous driving ranges and golf schools, the beginner can learn to play
and the expert can improve his technique in the warmth of the Costa del Sol sun.
It's not surprising that so many golfers each year choose the Costa del Sol as
their holiday destination or their permanent residence.
At any time of the year, famous golf celebrities such as Robert Trent Jones,
Sergio Garcia, Seve Ballesteros, or Miguel Angel Jiminez can be found at the
golf clubs or relaxing in the fine restaurants, which are able to satisfy the
most discerning of clients.
Whilst there are many new courses being opened or under construction, the demand
to play is such that it is necessary to reserve tee times in advance. This is
particularly important during the high seasons of mid February to the end of
April and October to December. Excellent golf and quieter courses can be found
during the hotter summer months, take a buggy and plenty of water and you will
have no problems.
