TOURISM
Andalucía launched Spain’s first Messenger-based virtual robot, which will answer questions about tourism in the region. It is hoped that “Lucía” will draw young technology-savvy tourists to Andalucía. (Sur- July 8)
Andalucía ranks second in Spain for establishments with the Q quality seal (276 of them). (Sur- July 5)
Foreign tourism will increase despite the global crisis. Turespaña confirmed that Andalucía is the favorite destination for Britons, Germans, Portuguese and Czechs. (La Opinión-July 6)
Alonso wants a tourism model similar to Miami’s, with more green areas and theme-based beaches. The regional government will put up 25 percent of the cost of any investment of 600,000 euros or more to upgrade hotel facilities. (Málaga Hoy- July 4)

Desalination plants are supplying 30% of the water used by Costa del Sol. The 11 municipalities in this region consume an average 60,000 liters a year, which they buy from Acosol. (La Opinión- July 8)
Marbella will create a registry to regulate the use of antennas. Operators will have to request a license and antennas may only be installed on land described as industrial by the zoning plan PGOU. (La Opinión- July 6)
The Andalusian Technology Institute made 9.2 million euros in 2007, almost 2 million euros above forecasts, and wants to double that figure by 2013. (Málaga Hoy- July 4)
